China’s flat steel exports fell by 0.8% in the first three quarters of the year

According to data released by the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), the country’s flat steel exports fell by 0.8% year-on-year to 54.48 million tons in the first three quarters of 2025.

China’s flat steel exports fell by 0.8% in the first three quarters of the year

According to the data, China’s steel sheet exports in September 2025 fell to 6.4 million tons, down 6.1% compared to the same month last year. This decline reflects weak global demand, rising trade restrictions, and price pressures.

On the other hand, exports of long products for the construction sector continued to show an upward trend. In September, China exported 1.68 million tons of steel bars, marking a 25% increase year-on-year. For the January–September period, bar exports rose strongly by 48.3% to reach 13.93 million tons.

Experts attribute the drop in flat steel primarily to weak demand in European and Southeast Asian markets and a slowdown in exports due to anti-dumping investigations in some countries.
