Canadian Steel Producers Association appoints new president and CEO

The Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) announced that Blair Dickerson will serve as president and CEO as of September 17, 2026.

Canadian Steel Producers Association appoints new president and CEO

Ron Bedard, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Steel Producers Association, announced on behalf of the CSPA Executive Board that Blair Dickerson has been appointed as the association's new president and CEO.

Bedard, who is also President and CEO of ArcelorMittal Dofasco, stated that Dickerson will come to the position with experience in highly regulated sectors. Stating that Dickerson dealt with trade and tariff issues in the aluminum and softwood lumber sectors during his positions at Rio Tinto and Domtar, Bedard expressed that his experience in government and regulatory relations at the federal and provincial levels will contribute to the Canadian steel sector.

Dickerson stated that he was pleased to join the CSPA as president and CEO, saying that it was a privilege to represent an industry that plays an important role in Canada's development and supports thousands of employees across the country.

Stating that there are important opportunities for domestic steel at a time when Canada is focused on major projects and strengthening its economy, Dickerson noted that he will work together with association members, governments and other stakeholders to support steel produced in Canada.

Doug Matthews, CEO of Orion Steel, also stated that Dickerson's leadership, energy and experience in working with government officials and stakeholders will add value to the association.

Served in the mining and base metals sectors

Dickerson, who held senior positions in both the public and private sectors, worked on government and stakeholder relations in the fields of mining, base metals and forest products.

Dickerson served as Vice President, Canada at Rio Tinto. At the company, he also served as Vice President, Asia, Corporate Relations in the Copper and Diamonds business, and then as General Manager, Communities and Communications, Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Dickerson, who worked as Head of Sustainability and Corporate Relations at Vale Base Metals, most recently served as Head of Government and Public Affairs for Canada at Domtar.

The CSPA, which represents primary steel producers in Canada and some of the country's major steel consumers, has 17 members. The association's members supply materials to the automotive, energy, construction and transportation sectors, supporting employment and economic growth across North America.
