Canada has expanded its investigation into steel wire imports from 10 countries, including Türkiye

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced that it has expanded the preliminary phase of an anti-dumping investigation into certain carbon and alloy steel wire imports from 10 countries, including Türkiye.

Canada has expanded its investigation into steel wire imports from 10 countries, including Türkiye

According to the July 7, 2025 announcement, the investigation into allegations that steel wire originating in China, Chinese Taipei, India, Italy, Malaysia, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, Thailand, Türkiye and Vietnam are being dumped in a harmful manner on the Canadian market is proceeding under the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA).

While the preliminary phase of the investigation should normally be completed within 90 days, the CBSA has extended this deadline to 135 days under Section 39(1) of SIMA. The extension was stated to be due to the complexity of the investigation, novel elements, the large number of persons involved and the difficulty in obtaining reliable evidence.

The CBSA will announce its decision to make a preliminary determination or terminate the investigation on or before September 4, 2025.
