According to the data released by the Brazilian Steel Association, the country's crude steel production stood at 2.9 million mt in January this year, down 4.8 percent year on year. In the given month, steel sales in the domestic market decreased by 28 percent year on year to 1.4 million mt. , apparent steel consumption was 1.7 million mt, down 24 percent year on year.
In January, the country's steel exports volume amounted to 1.2 million mt, up 116.7 percent year on year, while the value of these exports increased by 210.4 percent year on year to $975 million.
The country's steel import volume decreased 8.9 percent year on year to 296,000 metric tons, while the value of these imports increased 41.4 percent year on year to $407 million.
