Brazilian steel plate exports increased in June

Based on customs data, Brazil witnessed a notable surge in steel plate exports in June 2023, reaching 23,000 tons, a significant rise from the 2,500 tons exported in May. This increase is primarily attributed to the resumption of exports to Argentina, with the shipments likely intended for the further expansion of the Nestor Kirchner pipeline. The June exports were distributed between South America, accounting for 17,700 tons at a rate of $1200 per ton, and the United States, totaling 5,500 tons at $1100 per ton.

Noteworthy exporters involved in the June shipments were Gerdau, contributing 13,300 tons at $1150 per ton, Usiminas with 8,900 tons at $1254 per ton, ArcelorMittal exporting 700 tons at $718 per ton, and traders exporting 100 tons at $1137 per ton.

On the other hand, Brazil's steel imports experienced a decline in June, with 1,300 tons of flat products imported compared to 2,800 tons in May. The imports originated from European countries, with 800 tons at a rate of $1861 per ton, China accounting for 400 tons at $679 per ton, and Hong Kong contributing 100 tons at $888 per ton.
