BlueScope Steel will rebuild its blast furnace No. 5 at its Port Kembla steel mill in New South Wales. The cost of the reconstruction will be around 700-800 million AUD. Construction is expected to be completed in June 2025.
The annual production of the plant will be 2.7 million tons. Blast furnace No. 5 is scheduled to be out of service by the end of 2020.
The company will invest AUD 150 million over the next five years to develop new technologies to decrease CO2 emissions.
