On April 18, 2026, the agreements announced that the parties will collaborate in areas such as mineral processing, leaching, treatment of complex ores, and high-altitude operations. This step was described as part of BHP innovation arm’s goal to deepen its ties with China’s innovation ecosystem.
China ENFI, a subsidiary of China Metallurgical Group Corporation, is one of the leading EPC/EPCM firms in China’s mining sector. The company is known for its smart and digital mine projects developed through integrated information and automation systems. It has been involved in major projects such as the Julong, Dexing, and Pulang copper mines, the Jinchuan nickel mine, and the Sishanling iron ore project. Internationally, it executed the EPCM contract for Phase 2A of the Kamoa-Kakula copper project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and supplied an unmanned electric locomotive system for the Chambishi site in Zambia.
BGRIMM Technology Group is a major mineral processing technology company, particularly known for its flotation systems and plants. Its recent projects include HIF-680 flotation cells used for copper recovery from tailings at the Pulang Copper Mine in China, as well as the HIF-800 flotation cell, one of the largest in the world with an 800 m³ capacity. The company is also active in processing critical minerals such as lithium and graphite, supplying flotation equipment for CATL’s Yichun lepidolite operations.
As part of its engagement in China, BHP innovation team met with various organizations working in robotics, industrial automation, cloud and artificial intelligence, metallurgy, leaching, and waste management. These discussions were said to provide valuable knowledge exchange on shared challenges and opportunities across the mining value chain.
BHP Vice President of Innovation Jessica Farrell said such partnerships help turn innovative ideas into tangible outcomes, accelerating safer, more efficient, and more sustainable solutions.
China ENFI Chairman Cheng Liu stated that the agreement strategically advances cooperation between the two sides, aiming to accelerate technological progress in the sector through joint work in mineral processing, process control, and leaching technologies.
BGRIMM International Technology Company General Manager Yahui Li also expressed satisfaction with the agreement, emphasizing plans to deepen cooperation across a wide range of fields from mining to environmental protection and to develop sustainable solutions.
BHP also stated that through BHP Invent, it continues to connect innovators in orebody knowledge, mining, processing, leaching, and tailings management with real-world applications, while aiming to expand global collaborations.
