With an investment of approximately 5.2 billion Yuan ($723 million) and a steel capacity of 1.8 million tons per year, the project will see the construction of steel production facilities and port docks at the company's Zhanjiang site.
This milestone is regarded as a turning point in Baosteel's environmental sustainability efforts. By embracing modern technology and zero-carbon production principles, the project aligns with the carbon peak goal by 2030 and carbon neutrality target by 2050 set by its parent company, China Baowu Steel Group.
The new facilities will include electric arc furnaces, ladle refining furnaces, continuous slab caster, and a steel slag processing line, among other modern equipment. The introduction of these facilities aims to reduce environmental impacts and adopt sustainable production practices in the region's steel manufacturing.
The commissioning of China's first hydrogen-based shaft furnace in December last year further strengthened Baowu's environmental initiatives. This new project underscores the company's commitment to environmental sustainability and innovative approaches.
