The ceremony, held under the theme “Laying the Foundations for the Next 50 Years,” took place at ASELSAN's Gölbaşı campus with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The ceremony included the delivery of Steel Dome systems, the opening of new facilities, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the Oğulbey Technology Base. Akyol described ASELSAN's story as “the story of a nation taking bold steps on the path from dream to reality.”
Akyol emphasized that they are now among the world leaders in many critical technologies, from air defense to radar, electronic warfare to communications, and smart ammunition to electro-optical systems, stating that this accumulated expertise has now materialized in the “Steel Dome” architecture.
Noting that the decisions taken by the Defense Industry Executive Committee under the leadership of President Erdoğan in 2004 changed Türkiye's destiny, Akyol attributed every critical milestone and success ASELSAN has achieved over the past 20 years to this strategic stance.
Three important moves
Akyol stated that 47 air defense, radar, and electronic warfare systems were presented to the army as part of the Steel Dome. He also said that live images from the ASELFLIR-600 camera, which will work in conjunction with the AKINCI UAV, were shared throughout the ceremony.
Secondly, Akyol announced the opening of 14 new facilities that increased ASELSAN's serial production capacity by 40%. As the third and historic step, he announced the launch of a $1.5 billion investment in the Oğulbey settlement.
Global growth and export-focused strategy
Akyol stated that ASELSAN is taking solid steps towards becoming a global technology company. The company is engaged in export-focused activities in 25 countries, from Chile to Indonesia, and from South Africa to Poland. In the first six months of this year, export contracts worth $1.3 billion were signed.
Akyol said that the number of engineers coming to ASELSAN from abroad has reached twice the number of those leaving, adding, “This picture is the most concrete example of how our young people have embraced the National Technology Initiative.”
The ceremony was also attended by Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, MIT President İbrahim Kalın, Chief of General Staff Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, and President of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş.
