According to the statement, the facility is the 11th Arvedi ESP line commissioned worldwide and also stands out as the most powerful and efficient ESP line installed to date. The plant features a 130 mm thick casting unit, four roughing stands, and five finishing stands. This configuration is described as the most powerful and advanced Arvedi ESP line ever installed in China. The facility is designed to produce a wide range of products, from low-carbon steels to high-strength low-alloy steels.
In terms of product dimensions, the facility is designed to cover a range from 0.7 mm to 12.7 mm, allowing the full advantages of the endless casting and rolling process to be utilized. It was also noted that this is the first second-generation Arvedi ESP line installed in China, incorporating a variety of innovative solutions in both the casting and rolling stages.
Zheng Ting Wen, Chairman of Zhongshou Special Steel Group, stated that the company aims to maintain its leading position in green steel production in both domestic and international markets. He noted that the company seeks to strengthen its competitiveness in markets where mechanisms such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) are influential. It was emphasized that Arvedi ESP technology plays a key role in achieving this goal thanks to its low carbon footprint.
Paul Pennerstorfer, Head of Upstream Technologies at Primetals Technologies, stated that this achievement with Zhongshou marks an important milestone for the company. He said that Arvedi ESP technology confirms itself as one of the most efficient, lowest-cost, and most environmentally friendly processes for hot-rolled strip production. He also noted that endless hot-rolled coils (eHRC) produced with this technology represent a “game changer” for both hot-rolled and cold-rolled products in the Chinese market.
The statement further noted that Arvedi ESP technology is currently operating at full capacity in 10 plants worldwide and has produced more than 170 million tons of steel strip to date. It was also stated that, through the use of renewable energy sources, the system is designed to achieve zero CO₂ emissions and is the only certified solution for carbon-neutral thin slab casting and rolling.
