ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AMNS India), a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, announced on Thursday, September 2, 2021, the commissioning of its second six million tons (MTPA) pellet mill in Paradip.
The plant doubles its production capacity to 12 million tons, making it the largest single-location pelleting complex in the country. With this, AMNS India's national pelleting capacity has increased to 20 MTPA.
Dilip Oommen, CEO of AMNS India, said that despite the operational difficulties in the last 18 months due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the commissioning of the second pellet plant in Paradip is an important milestone. “We aim to reach a domestic steel production capacity of 300 tons in the next ten years.
AMNS India will continue to invest in Odisha, a promising hub for steel production. We are now sincerely planning a greenfield steel plant in the state.” “Paradip's pellet plant II will produce premium quality direct reduced iron grade pellets for domestic steel production,” said Wim Van Gerven, Director of Operations. AMNS India's national pellet production operations consist of 12 MTPAs in Paradip and 8 MTPAs in Vishakhapatnam.
