AISI welcomed the expansion of Section 232 to cover derivative steel products

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced that it welcomed the decision of the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) to expand the scope of Section 232 tariffs to cover a wider range of steel derivative products.

AISI welcomed the expansion of Section 232 to cover derivative steel products

Kevin Dempsey, President and CEO of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), welcomed the Department of Commerce’s announcement that hundreds of steel derivative products have been added under Section 232.

In his statement, Dempsey stated, “AISI welcomes this announcement by the Trump administration. A healthy domestic steel industry is vital to our national defense. The Section 232 program recognizes that steel is essential for military equipment, critical infrastructure and emergency response needs. Strengthening these tariffs helps ensure that America is not reliant on foreign imports in times of national security threats and crises. AISI commends President Trump and Secretary Lutnick’s decisive action to broaden the tariff coverage to create a level playing field for American workers and strengthen the American steel industry.”
