Acciai Speciali Terni has applied for ResponsibleSteel certification

Acciai Speciali Terni (AST), part of Arvedi, has started the process of obtaining ResponsibleSteel certification.

Acciai Speciali Terni has applied for ResponsibleSteel certification

"The company has developed an approach that aims not only to comply with the various parameters stipulated in the regulations, but also to adopt more restrictive self-regulatory criteria than the current regulations require," AST said in a statement.

AST said that in order for a steel producer to be considered a ResponsibleSteel producer, it must comply with more than 200 criteria. The focus is not only on decarbonization processes, but also on respect for human rights, workers' rights and local communities, as well as a broader range of ESG principles. Last year, the certification body published a new set of revised and more stringent environmental, social and governance standards to help the sector achieve its long-term sustainability goals.

Currently, the audit certification company DNV is verifying Arvedi AST's compliance with specific sustainability requirements such as governance, health and safety, labor and human rights, as well as the level of emissions and environmental impact of the plant in Terni. The steelmaker has created a sustainability committee for all decisions related to environmental impact and circular economy.
