Voestalpine orders scrap cranes from Danieli for Donawitz Plant in Austria

Danieli, a global leader in the steel industry, announced that it has received an order from voestalpine Stahl Donawitz GmbH for five automated scrap cranes to be used at the Donawitz site in Austria. These next-generation cranes will operate integrated with Danieli’s Scrap Yard Management System (Q3-DYMS), introducing groundbreaking technologies to scrap handling.

The ordered cranes feature absolute positioning systems for high-precision movements and are equipped with Danieli’s “Eye-On” smart video camera technology. Powered by electric stabilization and regenerative drives, these cranes ensure energy efficiency while enabling autonomous and uninterrupted operation.

Equipped with advanced automation capabilities such as scrap metal sorting and volumetric inventory measurement, the cranes offer flexible operation through the use of electromagnets or electro-hydraulic grabs. This enables faster, safer, and more environmentally friendly scrap yard operations.

Danieli’s latest deliveries are part of voestalpine’s comprehensive modernization plans for the Donawitz plant. In addition to the scrap cranes, the order also includes two new electric arc furnaces (EAF) and two semi-automatic EAF charging cranes.
