U.S. weekly raw steel production up 4.3%

U.S. raw steel production reached 1.8 million tons in the week ending August 9, with an increase of 4.3%.

U.S. weekly raw steel production up 4.3%

According to weekly data announced by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), raw steel production in the United States was recorded at 1,800,000 net tons in the week ending August 9, 2025. The capacity utilization rate was 79.5%. In the same period last year, production was 1,726,000 net tons and capacity utilization was 77.7%. Thus, there was a significant year-on-year increase of 4.3% in production.

On a weekly basis, the week of August 9 showed a 1.0% increase compared to the 1,782,000 net tons of production in the previous week of August 2, 2025. In the same week, the capacity utilization rate also rose from 78.7% to 79.5%. This increase is interpreted as an indicator of vitality in production activities.

Since the beginning of 2025, the adjusted total production has reached 54,146,000 net tons, with a capacity utilization rate of 76.5%. These figures represent a 1.2% increase compared to 53,492,000 net tons of production and a 76.4% capacity utilization rate in the same period last year. Thus, despite challenging economic and market conditions, the U.S. steel sector continues to increase its production capacity.

Looking at the geographical distribution, in the week of August 9, 2025, the North East region produced 128 thousand net tons, the Great Lakes region 555 thousand net tons, the Midwest 246 thousand net tons, the South 802 thousand net tons, and the West region 69 thousand net tons. Total production in these regions reached 1,800,000 net tons. The regional data indicates balanced distribution and stable performance in steel production across the country.
