U.S. weekly crude steel production continued to increase y-o-y

U.S. raw steel production declined 0.6% week on week to 1,808,000 net tons in the week ending September 5, 2026.

U.S. weekly crude steel production continued to increase y-o-y

Steel production stood at 1,818,000 net tons in the previous week, ending August 29, 2026. Over the same period, the capacity utilization rate declined to 78.3% from 78.7%.

U.S. weekly crude steel production increased 1.7% year on year. In the week ending September 5, 2025, U.S. mills produced 1,777,000 net tons of crude steel, while the capacity utilization rate stood at 78.3%.

As of September 5, 2026, adjusted year-to-date crude steel production reached 64,637,000 net tons, up 5.4% from 61,318,000 net tons recorded during the same period last year.

The year-to-date capacity utilization rate stood at 79%, compared with 77.1% in the corresponding period of the previous year.

By region, crude steel production in the week ending September 5 totaled 123,000 net tons in the Northeast, 511,000 net tons in the Great Lakes region, 281,000 net tons in the Midwest, 821,000 net tons in the South, and 72,000 net tons in the West. Total weekly production therefore amounted to 1,808,000 net tons.
