The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced that U.S. steel mills shipped 8,536,500 net metric tons of steel in June 2026. This figure represents an 8.7% increase compared to the 7,854,290 net metric tons shipped in June 2025, and a 4.8% increase compared to the 8,141,900 net metric tons recorded in May 2026.
According to AISI data, total steel shipments for the January–June 2026 period amounted to 47,527,101 net metric tons. Thus, shipments for the first six months of the year recorded a 5.3% increase compared to the 45,139,569 net metric tons shipped during the same period in 2025.
When evaluated by product group, shipments of corrosion-resistant sheet and strip rose by 14% in the first six months of 2026 compared to the same period last year, while shipments of hot-rolled sheet and strip increased by 8%. In contrast, shipments of cold-rolled sheet and strip remained unchanged compared to the same period last year.
