According to data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), shipments from U.S. steel mills in January 2026 increased by 2% compared to the same month of the previous year.
According to the AISI report, American steel mills shipped a total of 7,583,826 tons in January 2026. This figure represents a 2% increase compared to the 7,435,458 tons recorded in January 2025. Compared to the previous month—December 2025 shipments of 7,454,338 tons—it marked a 1.7% rise.
When annual changes are examined by product groups, shipments of corrosion-resistant sheet and strip increased by 11%, while hot-rolled sheet and strip shipments rose by 1%. Cold-rolled sheet shipments, however, declined by 13%.
