US steel production fell in November

US steel production fell by 0.9% in the second week of November.

US steel production fell in November

For the week ending November 11, 2023, crude steel production in the United States increased by 5.6% to 1.683 million short tons compared with 1.594 million short tons in the same week in 2022. In the previous week ending November 4, 2023, this figure was at around 1.699 million short tons, that is, a weekly decrease of 0.9%.

In the week under review, the capacity utilization rate of US steel mills was 73.2%, compared to 73.9% in the previous week and 71.5% in the same week last year.

From the start of 2023 through November 11, the U.S. produced 77.005 million short tons of crude steel, down 0.6% from 77.449 million short tons during the same period in 2022. The production capacity utilization rate for the above-mentioned period was at 75.8% compared to 78.1% a year earlier.

If we consider the volumes of crude steel production by region of the United States, then during the indicated week the Northeastern states produced 131 thousand short tons, the Great Lakes - 552 thousand short tons, the Midwest - 176 thousand short tons, the Southern states - 755 thousand short tons tons and Western States - 69 thousand short tons, which adds up to 1.683 million short tons.
