US steel exports decreased in September

US steel exports decreased by 12.1% in September.

US steel exports decreased in September

According to the data released by the US Department of Commerce, US steel exports decreased by 12.1% in September. In this period, 708,447 metric tonnes of steel were exported on a monthly basis, while an increase of 7.9% was recorded on an annual basis. The value of exports decreased to $1.27 billion from $1.43 billion in August, but increased compared to September last year.

US steel exports to Canada decreased 14.7 per cent m-o-m to 322,194 mt in September, but were up 6.4 per cent y-o-y. Steel exports to Mexico decreased by 12.3 per cent on a monthly basis to 325,047 mt, but increased by 5.4 per cent on an annual basis.

The top steel exporters to the US during this period were Malta (16,556 mt), India (3,581 mt), Australia (3,355 mt), Dominican Republic (2,307 mt) and China (2,234 mt).

Among the prominent steel products, the categories that the US exported the most in September are as follows: galvanised sheet (126,124 mt), cut-to-length plate (102,119 mt), hot rolled steel (66,658 mt), cold rolled steel (62,123 mt) and ribbed coil (34,210 mt).
