According to data on December deliveries from the U.S., steel import volumes could decrease to 1.98 million metric tons.
This will be a 24 percent decrease from the 2.62 million t actually imported in December 2021, but an increase of 8.7 percent compared to preliminary figures in November.
Licenses for flat products reached 726,900 tons, down by 38 percent compared to 1.16 million tons imported the previous year. Most of the declines were led by hot-rolled coil (HRC) and hot-dip galvanized (HDG) coils, down by 51% and 44%, respectively.
Semi-finished steel licenses decrease 48 percent to 294,100 tons, while slab licenses decrease 79 percent to 78,600 tons compared to 369,700 tons imported the previous year.
