According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), U.S. domestic crude steel production reached 1.749 million net tons in the week ending October 4, 2025, with a capacity utilization rate of 77.2%. In the same week last year, production was 1.628 million net tons, and the capacity utilization rate was 73.3%, indicating a 7.4% year-on-year increase.
Meanwhile, in the previous week ending September 27, 2025, production was 1.770 million net tons, with a capacity utilization rate of 78.1%, representing a 1.2% week-on-week decrease.
From the beginning of the year through October 4, 2025, adjusted crude steel production totaled 68.498 million net tons, with a capacity utilization rate of 77.1%. During the same period last year, production was 66.937 million net tons, and the capacity utilization rate was 76.2%, reflecting a 2.3% year-on-year increase in production so far this year.
Regionally, production in the week ending October 4 was distributed as follows: Northeast – 95 thousand net tons, Great Lakes – 561 thousand, Midwest – 239 thousand, South – 789 thousand, and West – 65 thousand, for a total of 1.749 million net tons.
