U.S. crude steel production records slight dip in weekly figures

In the week concluding on December 9, crude steel production in the United States experienced a marginal decline, generating a total of 1.697 million short tons. This marks a 0.3% decrease compared to the previous week but represents a notable 7.7% uptick from the same period last year.

The capacity utilization rate for the aforementioned week landed at 73.8%, showcasing a 0.3% dip on a weekly basis. However, when compared to the figures from a year ago, there was a 3.2% increase in capacity utilization.

As of December 9, the adjusted year-to-date production stands at approximately 83.64 million short tons, reflecting a modest 0.2% decrease from the previous year. Simultaneously, the capacity utilization rate for the year was recorded at 75.5%, indicating a 2.0% decrease.
