U.S. crude steel production increased by 9.4% in the week ending April 11

U.S. crude steel production recorded a 9.4% year-on-year increase in the week ending April 11, 2026.

U.S. crude steel production increased by 9.4% in the week ending April 11

According to data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the country’s crude steel production amounted to 1,843,000 net tons in the given week. This level indicated a 9.4% increase compared to 1,684,000 net tons recorded in the same week last year. The capacity utilization rate was calculated at 79.8% this year, compared to 75.0% in the same week of the previous year.

Production also increased compared to the previous week ending April 4, 2026. Crude steel production, which was 1,831,000 net tons in the week of April 4, rose by 0.7% to 1,843,000 net tons in the week of April 11. During the same period, the capacity utilization rate increased from 79.1% to 79.8%.

As of April 11, 2026, adjusted year-to-date crude steel production totaled 25,871,000 net tons. This represents a 5.5% increase compared to 24,519,000 net tons recorded in the same period last year. The year-to-date capacity utilization rate was 77.5% this year and 76.1% last year.

According to AISI data, regional crude steel production in the U.S. for the week ending April 11, 2026 was recorded as 125,000 net tons in the Northeast, 515,000 net tons in the Great Lakes region, 311,000 net tons in the Midwest, 830,000 net tons in the South, and 62,000 net tons in the West. Thus, total weekly production reached 1,843,000 net tons.
