U.S. crude steel production increased by 1.8% y/y in the week ending December 27

U.S. crude steel production recorded an increase on an annual basis during the week ending December 27, 2025, while showing a slight decline on a weekly basis.

According to data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), US crude steel production for the week in question was 1,695,000 net tons. This level represented a 1.8% increase compared to the 1,665,000 net tons recorded in the same week last year. The capacity utilization rate was measured at 74% during the same period. The capacity utilization rate was 75% in the same week last year.

Production declined compared to the previous week ending December 20, 2025. Crude steel production, which was 1,725,000 net tons in the previous week, decreased by 1.7% in the last week, while the capacity utilization rate fell from 75.3% to 74.0%.

From the beginning of the year to December 27, 2025, the adjusted total crude steel production in the US was recorded at 89,301,000 net tons. The capacity utilization rate during this period was 76.7%. This production volume represents a 3.4% increase compared to the 86,398,000 net tons recorded in the same period last year. The capacity utilization rate in the same period last year was 75.4%.

When evaluated on a regional basis, crude steel production in the United States during the week of December 27 was 108,000 net tons in the Northeast, 485,000 net tons in the Great Lakes region, 259,000 net tons in the Midwest, 781,000 net tons in the South, and 62,000 net tons in the West.
