US coking coal exports increased in February despite delays in shipments from Australia
US coking coal exports reached 3.74 million tons in February, showing an increase of 1.9% compared to January and 3.2% compared to February 2022.
Thanks to higher shipments to Brazil, Japan, and China, US coal exports were not affected by delays in shipments from Australia or a decrease in exports to India and the EU.
US coking coal shipments to Brazil increased by 50% compared to the previous year
In February 2023, US exports to Brazil increased by 50% compared to the previous year, reaching 758,367 tons, while exports to Japan increased by 40% to 421,018 tons. In contrast, Australia's February exports decreased by 16% compared to the previous year, dropping to 9.94 million tons.
US exports to China, on the other hand, increased by over three times compared to the previous year in February, reaching 439,924 tons.
Shipments from the US to the EU decreased by 2.4% on an annual basis
Shipments from the US to the EU reached 951,164 tons in February, showing a 2.4% decrease on an annual basis and a 27.9% decrease on a monthly basis.
US exports to Turkey reached the highest level in the last five months
US exports to Turkey reached 235,387 tons, a 15.5% decrease on an annual basis. However, this figure represents the highest level in the last five months.

While the US-India shipments increased on a monthly basis, they decreased on an annual basis. US exports to India amounted to 501,338 tons, a 39.5% decrease on an annual basis.
