Turkish Statistical Institute (TUİK) announced the unemployment data for December. According to the data, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 8.8 percent in December.
TUİK's results of the Household Workforce Survey showed that the number of unemployed people aged 15 and over decreased by 12 thousand people in December 2023 compared to the previous month and became 3 million 98 thousand people. Unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 point to 8.8 percent. Whereas unemployment rate was 7.1 percent for men, it was estimated as 12.0 percent for women.
Employment rate increased by 0.6 percentage points
In December 2023, the number of employed people increased by 399 thousand people compared to the previous month and became 32 million 56 thousand people, while the employment rate increased by 0.6 points to 48.8 percent. While this ratio was 66.1 percent for men, it was realized as 31.9 percent for women.
Workforce participation rate was 53.5 percent
In December 2023, labor force increased by 387 thousand people compared to the previous month and became 35 million 154 thousand people, while labor force participation rate increased by 0.5 points to 53.5 percent. The labor force participation rate was 71.1 percent for men and 36.3 percent for women.
