The latest developments in Türkiye’s rebar market have drawn attention to the slowdown following recent price increases. Given the rise in domestic scrap prices in February, this deceleration is considered an unexpected development. However, some industry sources predict that a more significant price correction may occur due to weak February sales and the traditional slowdown in Middle Eastern markets ahead of Ramadan.
At the beginning of the week, rebar offer levels saw a sharp increase, but by February 25, the market had partially recovered. However, industry representatives note that demand has weakened, and high price levels are struggling to gain market acceptance. Following last week’s price hikes, market activity has nearly come to a standstill, reinforcing expectations of a decline in rebar and wire rod prices.
Prices continue to show regional differences across Türkiye. In Izmir, rebar prices stand at $550/ton, while in the Marmara region, prices have dropped to around $570/ton ex-works. İçdaş has kept its official prices stable at $580/ton, but some buyers have reportedly secured products at $570/ton.
The export market also remains stagnant. New orders are being approached with caution, and according to SteelRadar data, the export price of Turkish rebar is around $560/ton FOB. With weak demand both domestically and internationally, market activity remains sluggish, and increasing economic uncertainties make it harder for market players to anticipate future trends.
The overall slowdown in the market is becoming more apparent as domestic and foreign demand remains weak. With ongoing global economic uncertainties, industry players find it challenging to make forward-looking assessments. If these unfavorable conditions persist, further price fluctuations in rebar are expected. To navigate this challenging period, producers are likely to focus on optimizing costs and exploring new markets.
