UK to review import protection measures in 15 steel product categories

While examining the status of the current measures, which are expected to expire on June 30, 2024, the Trade Solutions Authority (TRA) will make recommendations on whether these measures should be extended for another two years until 2026. These recommendations are scheduled to be presented in April-May of next year.

The TRA reviewed the EU-inherited safeguards for certain steel products in 2020, and the government accepted the TRA's proposal to extend these measures in 10 categories for another three years. As a result of the second review in 2022, it was decided to continue the protective measures in 15 categories for two more years.

Products include HRC, CRC, metallic coated sheet, organic coated sheet, tin mill products, quarto sheets, commercial bars and light sections, rebar, wire rod, angle bar, sections, railway materials, gas pipes, hollow sections and large welded pipes. taking.

As part of this review, the TRA will assess the risk of a recurrence of the sharp increase in steel imports and the damage the current measures are doing to the country's steel industry. The British government is reviewing these measures to maintain the sustainability and competitiveness of the steel industry.
