Uraloğlu added that the agreement was signed with the aim of increasing trade between Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, adding that Turkiye will make the country a center of transit with the land and railway transportation corridor to be built together with Iraq.
Minister Uraloğlu said that in line with the 2053 vision, they aim to increase transportation connections in parallel with the increasing trade between Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
"In order to ensure the smooth flow of freight from both Asia and the Middle East, we are establishing the second railway connection between Asia and Europe with the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, after Marmaray. We signed a memorandum of understanding with Bulgaria on the establishment of a second railway crossing point, taking into account the increasing railway potential."
Uraloğlu also stated that Turkey will construct a road and rail transportation corridor extending from Basra province of Iraq to its own border in cooperation with Iraq, which will shorten the travel time between Asia and Europe and make the country a transit center.
Minister Uraloğlu said, "While we are rapidly developing our networks for transit transportation by rail in the east and south of our country, we do not want the cargo we will ship to be stuck at our western borders. For this purpose, we established the Council of Ministers of Transportation last year as Turkiye, Bulgaria, Hungary and Serbia. The first decision we took in this council was to establish the railway working group. We are working on a joint action plan with our partners for the continuation of freight after Turkey. What I want to say is that in order to keep up with the pace of trade, it is necessary to avoid practices that will create new difficulties and to eliminate the existing difficulties immediately."
