Turkish Exporters Assembly Secretary General Director Mehmet Tan presented the organization’s activities and priorities and discussed potential areas of future cooperation with EUROMETAL at the meeting, . The discussions were also attended by Turkish Exporters Assembly Deputy Representative in Brussels, Mehmet Emin Kavlak.
Both parties emphasized that Türkiye is an important partner for the European Union in terms of both imports and exports. The meeting covered the evolving policy environment affecting the steel sector, pathways for carbon reduction, and Türkiye’s significant share in Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) production a method that plays a critical role in reducing the industry’s carbon footprint.
The discussion also addressed the EU-Türkiye Customs Union, free trade agreement negotiations, and compliance with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules regarding trade measures, as well as challenges posed by the global steel overcapacity. Both sides highlighted the importance of open dialogue between European and Turkish stakeholders to support a competitive, transparent, and sustainable steel value chain.
