This marks the first increase in annual inflation since May 2024. The 12-month average inflation was calculated at 38.36 percent.
In August, monthly inflation had increased by 2.04 percent and annual inflation stood at 32.95 percent.
Food and Housing Drive Inflation
According to the data, the highest contribution to headline inflation came from food and non-alcoholic beverages, due to their weight in the index. On an annual basis, food prices increased by 33.28 percent, transportation by 24.86 percent, and housing by 53.27 percent. The annual contributions of these three groups to overall inflation were 7.97 percent, 4.10 percent, and 8.12 percent, respectively.
Fastest Increase in Education
Although its weight is lower, the fastest price increase was recorded in the education group. Annual education inflation rose by 66.1 percent, with a monthly increase of 17.9 percent. Its contribution to headline inflation was 1.61 percent annually and 0.48 percent monthly.
Food Leads Monthly Inflation
Looking at the main spending groups, in September food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 4.62 percent, transportation by 2.81 percent, and housing by 2.56 percent. Their monthly contributions to inflation were 1.11 percent, 0.44 percent, and 0.44 percent, respectively.
