The decline in production was mainly driven by the transition from the old version of the Toyota RAV4 to the new model, as well as slower production in China and Japan. Overseas production fell by 4.6% to 470,757 units. In China, production dropped 11.5% to 78,457 units due to intense competition and the Lunar New Year holiday. Domestic production in Japan decreased by 2.6% to 278,916 units. In North America, production declined 9.1% to 159,237 units due to the RAV4 model change, while total production in the United States rose 3.4% to 110,978 units, supported by strong hybrid vehicle demand.
Sales also declined, with global sales falling 3.3% to 737,134 units. Overseas deliveries dropped 2.2% to 614,870 units, while U.S. sales increased 3.2% to 180,950 units thanks to robust hybrid demand. In Japan, sales decreased 8.3% to 122,264 units due to reduced registrations ahead of the expected removal of the environmental tax incentive. Sales in China fell 13.9% to 82,471 units.
Toyota officials stated that the declines in both production and sales were due to regional factors, particularly noting that the slowdown in China and Japan affected the global picture.
