Speaking at the Tube&Wire Fair held in Düsseldorf, Germany, Tosyalı shared important insights on various topics ranging from automotive steel to green transformation.
Tosyalı stated that they have succeeded in reducing thickness to 0.80 mm in hot rolled coil production, noting that they are among the limited number of producers in the world capable of producing at this level. He explained that steel produced at 1,700 degrees in 300-ton ladles can be reduced to this thickness, emphasizing that this requires experience rather than machinery. He also noted that this production eliminates intermediate processes, increases efficiency, and adds approximately $100 premium to the base price of the product.
Tosyalı announced that the company will start automotive steel production in the third quarter of 2026 and that production will be carried out in Algeria. He stated that 700,000 tons of the total 1.6 million-ton capacity will be allocated to automotive steel and that adjustments within the capacity may be made depending on performance.
Regarding current production, Tosyalı noted that more than 1 million tons of finished products are produced monthly, with approximately 50,000 tons of steel supplied to the market daily. He stated that this figure is targeted to reach 100,000 tons, adding that a new 3 million-ton capacity investment is planned. He also said that a $2.5 billion complex investment, including slab production, round billets for oil and gas pipes, and other value-added products, will start this year and is expected to take approximately 30 months.
Touching on financial indicators, Tosyalı stated that revenue, which was $9 billion last year, is expected to exceed $10 billion this year, while exports are projected to surpass $3 billion.
Highlighting progress in global rankings, Tosyalı said that the company ranked 46th two years ago and has now risen to the 30s, with a target of entering the top 20 once the planned investments are completed.
On the energy side, Tosyalı noted that total consumption is at the level of 2.5 gigawatts, equivalent to the total consumption of several provinces in Türkiye. He stated that energy accounts for 25% of steel production costs and that ongoing energy investments in eight different provinces are planned to be completed within two years.
Evaluating the steel sector in Türkiye, Tosyalı pointed out that capacity utilization rates have declined from 85% to around 60%, emphasizing the importance of using existing capacity more efficiently rather than making new capacity investments. He also noted that dumped products originating from the Far East are putting pressure on the sector.
Recalling that global steel production is around 2 billion tons, Tosyalı stated that differentiation becomes more important during periods of crisis.
Providing information on carbon emissions, Tosyalı stated that approximately 70% of global steel production is coal-based, with emissions exceeding 2,000 kilograms per ton. He noted that Tosyalı Holding’s emissions are around 650 kilograms per ton and that their target is to reduce this below 500 kilograms. He added that they are focusing on low-carbon steel production through natural gas-based production in Algeria, scrap-based production in Türkiye, and renewable energy investments. In this context, he also mentioned that they supply pipes for a project in Germany’s Ruhr region.
Tosyalı stated that the company has reached more than 50 facilities and a liquid steel capacity of 15 million tons, producing 10% of Europe’s total liquid steel on its own. He noted that exports from Türkiye increased by 40% to exceed 2.1 million tons, with exports to 75 countries across five continents. He stated that they are Europe’s largest producer of ERW pipes and added that in 2025, they produced pipes long enough to travel to the Moon and back. He also noted that production in Spain increased 13 times in two years, while in Algeria, capacity exceeded 6 million tons across 17 factories. He added that a world record was achieved with 2.43 million tons of production at the new DRI plant.
In the defense industry, Tosyalı stated that Altay tank production is progressing as planned, with annual production expected to reach 96 units, and that the production of armored personnel carriers and tactical wheeled vehicles is also ongoing.
On electric vehicles, Tosyalı noted that TOGG is progressing with a fully electric product strategy, adding that in addition to the T10X model, the T10F and T6X models will also be introduced. He stated that orders for the more compact T6X model are planned to be taken in June–July next year, with deliveries expected to begin in July. He also noted that the current production line supports 150,000 vehicles annually and can produce 4 to 6 different models on the same line, adding that the company’s 100,000th vehicle will be on the road this week. He further stated that an electric commercial vehicle project suitable for urban use is targeted to be launched in early 2028.
Referring to the importance of the Düsseldorf fair for the sector, Tosyalı stated that the event is one of the most important meeting points for pipe, profile, and wire technologies. He noted that Türkiye is the largest participant at the fair and that Tosyalı Holding, as one of Europe’s largest steel pipe producers, is centrally positioned at the event. He added that while they participated modestly in the fair 30 years ago, today they take part with two separate stands, emphasizing that their integrated production structure differentiates them from competitors and that they operate with more than 500 global partners.
