The USA not considering 'divorce' on trade with China

The USA Trade Representative Katherine Tai stated that they want to reorganize relations between the world's 2 largest economies, rather than diverging in their trade relations with China.

The USA not considering 'divorce' on trade with China

Asked whether US-China relations are decoupling in an interview with Bloomberg Television in Singapore, US Trade Representative Katherine Tai said: "The Biden government's policy is focused on getting the global economy back on track. These include increasing transparency and control and diversifying supply chains that have suffered in recent years. There are issues. What we're trying to do is not to end trade with China or change trade that would require a 'divorce'." gave the answer.

Tai noted that they are more focused on reform and more strategic approaches in trade.

Tai, in his speech at the Congress last week, stated that the negotiations with China were quite challenging and argued that the USA needed new tools in the face of China's anti-competitive practices.

Tai noted that instead of trying to change China's practices, the focus should be on restructuring the US manufacturing industry and increasing investment.
