The automotive industry continued to be Türkiye’s leading sector with a 17.5% share in sectoral exports in 2025.

Türkiye’s automotive sector posts strong 2025 performance, enters 2026 with growth momentum

According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TEA), automotive exports increased by 12% as yearly to reach USD 41.5 billion in 2025.

Figures released by the Automotive Manufacturers Association (AMA) show that total automotive production in January–December 2025 increased by 4% compared to the previous year, reaching 1,419,464 units. Passenger car production, however, declined by 4% to 872,538 units. Including tractor production, total output amounted to 1,445,921 units.

Commercial vehicle production on the rise

In 2025, commercial vehicle production increased by 19% as yearly. Light commercial vehicle production increased by 21%, while heavy commercial vehicle production edged up by 1%. The commercial vehicle market expanded by 8%, with the light commercial vehicle market growing by 10%, whereas the heavy commercial vehicle market contracted by 4%.

Overall capacity utilization in the industry stood at 67%. By vehicle type, capacity utilization rates were recorded at 68% for light vehicles, 57% for trucks, 68% for buses and midibuses, and 35% for tractors.

Export volumes exceed 1 million units

Automotive exports in 2025 increased by 4% in unit terms to 1,057,920 vehicles. During this period, passenger car exports declined by 8%, while commercial vehicle exports surged by 28%. Tractor exports fell by 13% as yearly to 11,261 units.

According to data from the Uludağ Automotive Industry Exporters’ Association (IEA), passenger car exports increased by 4% to USD 11.8 billion. In value terms, exports by main industry manufacturers increased by 15%, while supplier industry exports grew by 6%.

Domestic market surpasses 1.4 million units

Türkiye’s domestic automotive market expanded by 10% in 2025 compared to the previous year, reaching 1,413,903 units. Passenger car sales increased by 11% to 1,084,496 units.

Over the same period, the share of domestically produced vehicles stood at 30% in passenger car sales and 22% in the light commercial vehicle market.

With solid export and production performance, Türkiye’s automotive industry closed 2025 on a strong note and entered 2026 with sustained growth momentum.
