Following this development, the Steel Exporters' Association (SEA) organized a Sectoral Trade Delegation program in Sarajevo to ensure competition in the Bosnian market.
At the event with the participation of 28 Turkish companies, bilateral business meetings are being held with 80 firms from Bosnia and Herzegovina. SEA President Adnan Aslan stated that it will take approximately 1.5 years for the factory to become operational again, emphasizing that during this period Türkiye is one of Bosnia’s backup players.
Strong export growth target
Türkiye’s steel exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina increased from USD80 million to USD118 million in 2023. This year, the figure is around USD150 million, and it is expected to reach USD300 million in 2026. Aslan pointed out ''That steel is used intensively in Bosnia, particularly in construction and infrastructure projects, and reminded that Turkish contractors play an important role in critical projects such as the regional highway and high speed train. He added that both Bosnia’s infrastructure and superstructure will grow together with the Turkish steel sector.''
18 million tons of export exporter
Aslan stated that ''indirect exports to Serbia via Bosnia have also become an important market.'' He also noted that ''The trade mission organization in the Balkan countries has rapidly turned Romania into one of Türkiye’s largest markets.''
Aslan emphasized that ''Changes in interest rates in the sector have made competition more difficult; nevertheless, they anticipate Türkiye’s steel exports to reach 18 million tons and USD15.5 billion by the end of the year.”
