Türkiye's crude steel production decreased by 3.5% in June 2025 compared to the same month last year, reaching 2.9 million tons.

The Turkish Steel Producers Association (TÇÜD) announced production, consumption, and foreign trade data for June 2025. According to the data, despite a 1.7% decrease in production in the six-month period, Türkiye maintained its position as the world's 7th largest steel producer and Europe's largest steel producer.

Global crude steel production decreased by 5.8% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 151.4 million tons in June 2025. Türkiye's crude steel production decreased by 3.5% compared to the same month of the previous year, remaining at 2.9 million tons in June. In the first six months of 2025, global crude steel production decreased by 2.2% to 934.2 million tons. Despite a 1.7% decrease in production during the six-month period, Türkiye maintained its position as the 7th largest steel producer in the world, retaining its title as Europe's largest steel producer.

In terms of finished products, flat product production increased by 3.2% to 1.3 million tons in June, while consumption increased by 5.1% to 1.5 million tons. In the first half of the year, flat product production decreased by 6%, while consumption decreased by 9.7%. For long products, production increased by 13% to 2.1 million tons in June, while consumption rose by 12.3% to 1.6 million tons. In the first six months of the year, long product production increased by 7.3%, and consumption increased by 5.2%.

Final product production increased by 9.1% to 3.4 million tons in June, while our consumption increased by 8.8% to 3 million tons. In the first half of the year, final product production increased by 1.8%, while our consumption decreased by 2.6%.

In June 2025, Türkiye's steel product exports by volume increased by 21.5% compared to the same month of the previous year. Semi-finished products increased by 92.1%, flat products by 16.3%, and long products by 21.4%. The increase in exports in the first six months was 18.6%, 99.9% for semi-finished products, 19.4% for flat products, and 14.3% for long products.

A 52.4% increase in imports

Türkiye's steel product imports increased by 52.4% in June in terms of volume. There was a 49.5% increase in long products, a 17.9% increase in flat products, and a 108.1% increase in semi-finished products. In the first six months of the year, the increase in imports was 12.6%. There was a 15% increase in long products, a 10.9% increase in semi-finished products, and a 6.1% decrease in flat product imports.

Scrap imports decreased due to semi-finished products

In the first six months of 2025, while crude steel production decreased by 1.7%, scrap imports decreased by 5.8% due to the increase in semi-finished product imports. The EU accounted for the largest share of scrap imports, with a 4.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Scrap imports from CIS countries increased by 37.8%, while scrap imports from other regions decreased.
