According to data from the Korea Customs Service (KCS), the country imported 58.33 million tons of coal in the first seven months of 2025, marking a 12.2% decrease compared to the same period last year.
However, July showed a different trend. Coal imports in July increased by 13.4% year-on-year and rose by 49.6% compared to the previous month. In total, South Korea imported 11.48 million tons of coal in July.
Experts emphasized that despite the annual decline, the increase in July reflects fluctuations in energy demand and changes in market conditions.
