South Korea has decided to impose temporary AD duties on hot-rolled steel sheets imported from China and Japan

The South Korean Trade Commission has issued a preliminary ruling in its anti-dumping investigation into hot-rolled steel sheets imported from Japan and China, deciding to impose temporary anti-dumping duties of up to 33.57%.

South Korea has decided to impose temporary AD duties on hot-rolled steel sheets imported from China and Japan

The duties cover major producers such as JFE Steel and Nippon Steel from Japan, and Baoshan Iron & Steel and Bengang Steel Plates from China.

The hot-rolled carbon steel and alloy steel sheets in question are used as basic materials in many industries, including automotive, pipe production, and construction. The Commission launched the investigation in March following a complaint by Hyundai Steel against Chinese and Japanese producers, assessing that low-priced imports were causing price disruptions and imbalances in the local market.

Following Hyundai Steel's claim that it had suffered losses due to dumped imports, the investigation led to the decision to impose temporary duties to protect the domestic industry. The Commission will continue its detailed investigations prior to making a final decision.
