Mauritania’s state-owned mining company Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière (SNIM) announced that it continued its steady growth in iron ore sales, reaching a sales volume of 14.7 million tons in 2025 and exceeding the 14-million-ton mark for the third year in a row. The company also stated that it has set a sales target of 15.5 million tons for 2026.
In addition to increasing production, SNIM emphasized its focus on market diversification. Planning to expand into new markets in 2026, particularly in the Middle East, the company aims to gradually boost its production capacity through the modernization of the Guelb II plant and the discovery of new reserves.
With a more ambitious long-term vision, SNIM targets an annual production capacity of 45 million tons by 2031. This goal is expected to further strengthen Mauritania’s position in the global iron ore market.
Currently, the company exports iron ore extracted from mines in the Zouérate region to Europe and China via the Port of Nouadhibou, continuing to play a significant role in Mauritania’s economy and export revenues.
