Sinosteel Equipment & Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China-based Sinosteel International, has announced a new agreement with ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Al-Jubail (AMTPJ) to build a seamless steel pipe production line in Jubail, eastern Saudi Arabia.
Signed on July 29, the contract includes the construction of a 200,000-ton/year heat treatment line and a 150,000-ton/year finishing line. The facilities will produce pipes ranging from 114.3 mm to 406.4 mm in diameter, mainly for use in oil, gas, shipbuilding, and offshore construction.
Sinosteel and AMTPJ had previously collaborated on a pipe production line project with an annual capacity of 600,000 tons at the Port of Jubail. In that previous project, Sinosteel was responsible for equipment supply and installation. The contract, which was won after approximately one and a half years of negotiations, demonstrated the company's competitiveness in international tenders.
In the new project, Sinosteel will oversee the entire process, including design, equipment supply, installation, and commissioning. Some of the advanced production technologies will be provided by the company's global partner Tenova. The company, which has begun preparations, announced that it has established a special team to oversee the project's progress.
