Scandinavian Steel signs strategic cooperation agreement with GreenIron for fossil-free iron

Scandinavian Steel, a global leader in the supply of steel, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, pig iron and alloys to the steel, foundry and chemical industries, becomes the exclusive distributor of GreenIron's fossil-free iron produced in Sandviken, Sweden. The cooperation includes regular deliveries of hydrogen-produced direct reduced iron (DRI) in the Scandinavian and European markets.

This partnership is considered a milestone in the industry in terms of bringing fossil-free production technology to the market and introducing products that are in compliance with global climate goals.

“A milestone for the entire industry”

Peter Witz, COO Scandinavian Steel stated about the collaboration: “This partnership is a milestone not just for Scandinavian Steel but for the entire industry. Offering fossil-free iron to our customers is not only important – it is essential. We are proud to be the first distributor in the world to deliver this groundbreaking product to the market.”

Edward Murray, CEO GreenIron also stated: “Our collaboration with Scandinavian Steel is a crucial part of our strategy to bring our technology to customers in the Nordics and Europe. Their expertise and extensive network make them an ideal partner in driving the green transition within the metal industry.”

2025 target in fossil-free iron

GreenIron's Sandviken plant is expected to start producing fossil-free iron in 2025. This technology, which has attracted a lot of attention with its sustainable and circular approach to metal production, is aiming to have a significant impact on the industry in reducing carbon emissions and meeting the increasing demand for environmentally friendly materials.
