SAIL plans to increase coking coal purchases from Russia at more affordable prices

SAIL (Steel Authority of India) has expressed its intention to increase its purchase of coking coal from Russia due to its more affordable prices.

SAIL plans to increase coking coal purchases from Russia at more affordable prices

SAIL President Amarendu Prakash announced on Monday that they expect to receive four shipments with a capacity of 75,000 tonnes each in December.

Coking coal, an important raw material in the steelmaking process, is currently facing shortage and SAIL considers Russian coking coal to be a cost-effective alternative compared to that supplied from Australia.

Australia has traditionally supplied more than half of India's coking coal imports; This corresponds to approximately 70 million metric tons per year. It also imports coking coal from India, Russia and the USA.

SAIL, India's largest state-owned steelmaker, has received a total of eight shipments from Russia since April.
