Rio Tinto resumes operations on its iron ore line in Western Australia

Rio Tinto, a mining company headquartered in the UK and Australia, has recommenced the transportation of iron ore to its Dampier port in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. This follows a train accident that occurred on June 17th.

Despite ongoing cleanup efforts and speed restrictions causing some disruptions to the delivery schedule, the railway track has been cleared, and the first train traveled along the route between the night of June 20th and June 21st. The incident happened at 6:30 pm Australian Western Standard Time (10:30 GMT) on June 17th, around 20 kilometers outside Dampier port.

The train was operating autonomously, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. Prior to the derailment, Rio Tinto had experienced a successful week of shipping, resulting in the highest iron ore shipments from Western Australia in three weeks, up until the week ending on June 17th.
