Rio Tinto's Pilbara iron ore production increased in the fourth quarter of 2021.
According to Rio Tinto's report, the company's Pilbara iron ore production in the fourth quarter of 2021 increased by 1% compared to the previous quarter and decreased by 2% compared to the same period of the previous year to 84.1 million tons.
Total production in 2021 reached 319.7 million tons, down 4% year on year. The decrease was mainly due to higher precipitation in the first half of 2021.
In addition, production at the Gudai-Darri and Robe Valley mines has been delayed due to the continued spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has tightened labor availability.
Rio Tinto's Pilbara iron ore production is targeted to reach 320-335 million tons by 2022.
