Rebar prices rise in Türkiye as domestic demand gains momentum

According to information from producers, both sales volumes and price levels are maintaining their upward trajectory.

One of the country’s leading integrated steel producers, Kardemir, launched a new sales round on July 23. The mill increased its rebar prices by TRY 948/ton (around $13/ton) compared to its previous offer on July 9, setting the new price at TRY 26,700/ton ($550/ton) EXW. Kardemir reported receiving orders for a total of 29,750 tons in less than an hour — a strong signal of improving domestic demand.

Regional pricing also reflects this upward trend. In the İzmir region, rebar prices have climbed to around $540/ton, while in the Marmara region, ex-works prices are ranging between $565-570/ton. Although İçdaş officially lists its price at $560/ton, market sources indicate that actual transactions are mostly being concluded around $550/ton. In the İskenderun region, one producer continues to offer at $560/ton.

According to industry representatives, the domestic market currently appears stronger than the export market. However, they emphasize that sustaining current price levels will require continued momentum in local demand. Sellers note that domestic orders — even in small volumes — have started to pick up again after a period of stagnation.

A similar trend has been observed in the export market as well. Export rebar offers from Türkiye increased by $10/ton in one week, rising to $540-550/ton FOB for August shipments, in line with the domestic price trend. However, export demand remains limited.

Upward movement has also been noted in the wire rod segment. On the same day as its rebar sale, Kardemir launched domestic wire rod sales, raising prices by $10/ton compared to the previous round. Offers for 5.5 mm SAE 1008-1010 grade wire rod were announced at $580/ton EXW.

Market sources suggest that increased construction activity during the summer months is supporting local demand. In response, producers are continuing their cautious and limited sales strategies in an effort to maintain current price levels.
