Myanmar's neighbor Thailand was also affected by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck near Mandalay, the country's second largest city, on Friday (March 28, 2025). After the earthquake, a 30-story skyscraper under construction in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, collapsed.
Thailand's Ministry of Industry announced that two of the twenty-eight samples taken from the debris sent to the Iron and Steel Institute of Thailand for examination were of substandard rebar.
Thitipas Choddaechachainun, the head of the Ministry of Industry's working group, declined to name the manufacturer, but noted that it had been shut down last December for other violations.
