The company aims to meet approximately 6 to 6.5 percent of its annual electricity consumption from renewable sources through the newly installed solar power systems.
The electricity generated from solar panels installed over a total area of 20,075 square meters will be directly purchased and used by the company. This initiative will enable Posco Steeleon to accelerate progress toward its 2050 decarbonization targets by expanding the use of renewable energy.
Posco’s PosMAC 3.0 product, known for its high corrosion resistance, was used in the solar panel mounting structures and cable trays. Offering long service life and low maintenance costs even in corrosive coastal environments, the material enhances the facility’s long term operational efficiency.
Posco Steeleon’s solar energy investment represents a key pillar of its transition toward carbon neutrality under its ESG strategy. Since 2022, the company has implemented various carbon reduction initiatives, including rooftop solar installations at its headquarters and projects focused on reusing surplus steam.
Posco Steeleon CEO Cheon Si yeol stated that the commissioning of the solar power facilities marks a significant turning point in achieving the company’s 2050 carbon neutrality goal. He emphasized that sustainable investments aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions will continue, adding that the company will keep delivering positive value to both customers and society.
