The contract, valued at approximately KRW 1.0149 trillion, spans a five-year period from 2027 to 2032. The agreement includes mutual extension options, while the customer’s identity remains undisclosed for commercial confidentiality reasons.
This deal marks the largest supply contract the company has signed since entering the anode materials sector in 2011.
Consecutive Orders
POSCO Future M currently supplies anode materials to various domestic battery manufacturers, including General Motors, as well as global customers. In July 2025, the company signed a natural graphite anode materials agreement with a major Japanese battery manufacturer, followed by another contract worth approximately KRW 670 billion with a global automaker in October 2025.
By securing consecutive orders, the company has expanded its customer base, improved profitability, and established a solid foundation for sustainable growth.
Expanding Collaboration
The latest agreement complements the natural graphite anode contract signed last year. POSCO Future M is also planning to expand collaborations with the same customer into cathode materials and lithium business segments.
Capacity Expansion Through Vietnam Investment
To meet the new order, the company has begun efforts to increase production capacity. On March 5, it approved a new facility investment of approximately KRW 357 billion in Vietnam for artificial graphite anode production.
With this agreement, POSCO Future M secures customer commitments that underpin the first-phase investment while preparing to implement second-phase expansion plans to meet growing demand.
Global Production and Competitiveness
The new production capacity to be built in Vietnam is expected to help the company offer cost-competitive, high-quality products and expand its global order book. This contract underscores POSCO Future M’s supply chain solutions and technological capabilities, particularly as reliable anode material supply becomes increasingly critical for the electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage system (ESS) sectors.
Integrated Supply Chain Goals
As South Korea’s sole graphite-based anode material producer, POSCO Future M began localizing natural graphite anode production in 2011, completed its artificial graphite anode plant in Pohang in 2021, and established a full-scale mass production system.
The company aims to develop a vertically integrated supply chain from raw materials to final products. In artificial graphite anode production, coal tar derivatives from POSCO’s steelmaking process are used, while natural graphite ores will be sourced from various regions, including Africa. Intermediate processing is planned at the global graphite facility under construction in Saemangeum.
Focus on Next-Generation Battery Materials
POSCO Future M produces large-scale, customized natural and artificial graphite anodes and is also commercializing silicon anode materials for solid-state batteries and other next-generation applications.
The company’s technological expertise, process innovation, and efficiency are highlighted as key strengths. New supply discussions are ongoing with customers in Korea, North America, and Europe for both cathode and anode materials.
POSCO Future M aims to strengthen its current position and become a leading global battery materials manufacturer.
